In a sports psychology lesson yesterday we had this tiny test that were supposed to give us an idea of how each of us performs under different circumstances. For me it was quite clear that I work better if someone else (a trainer for example) sets a goal for me. In essence I function better when someone else tells me what to do.. Which actually works perfectly with the entry I posted a month ago called “Excuse me; this is not the life I ordered!” where I wrote:
Someone should make me do something. Someone should ask me to build something big. Carry something heavy. Run really far. Paint something extraordinary.
And now someone has actually told me to run really far. Or well, not exactly – but a part of a new subject, exercise physiology, we have to make an exercise program to fulfil a goal we set for ourselves. I chose running, because I have always hated it and thought it would be a great challenge. My main goal is to take of a minimum of three minutes of my 5 km time (I am so pathetic I actually asked everybody what they thought would be realistic, but still challenging..) plus some additional goals as well as some more process oriented goals for how I want to be training, eating and so on in this period.
And I have never been more motivated in my life. I am doing things I have never imagined I would do – I am not only exercising six times a week, I am also both eating right and sleeping enough.
SO! What motivates you? And what do you do when you feel the motivation slipping away? In all areas of life – not only exercising.. :)
